Misison Accomplished

a quick note to let everyone know:

we finished the campaign with no debt!

the convention went well - cspan bailed and didn’t cover us for the first time (did in 2000/2004) - i took an unplanned vacation afterward - i have tons of email and phone calls to return, which i’m slowly, slowly getting to. Hopefully someone will get raw footage of the forum and speeches online soon - i haven’t even seen them!

Cynthia McKinney won the nomination as you may know by now. I hope you will all support her campaign as i do. and if you don’t - i am interested why not, so drop me a line, or comment if you don’t mind it public.

The Green party is still working on ballot access in many states incl NY, OH, VA and others. Status chart here: http://www.ballot-access.org/ballot-chart.html.

Stay tuned….kat

Final Push to Chicago - we’re on a Mission from Gahd!

As of July 6, 2008, I need to raise about $1k this week to cover all outstanding expenses for the upcoming convention - hotel, transit passes, delegate travel costs, a table at the convention, and other such costs.  Please spare a few bucks and help me in this final push to Chicago!

Ingrid is FREE

Colombian Green Party leader Ingrid Betancourt was rescued from captivity on July 2nd, after being held hostage for six years by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Ingrid founded the Oxygen Green Party/Partido Verde Oxígeno in 1994, establishing a new political force committed to peace, women’s empowerment and a fairer society. She was elected as Colombia’s first Green Senator in 1998, and in 2002, she ran for the presidency. Dedicated to non-violence, she was campaigning in the country’s demilitarized zone to appeal for peace when she was kidnapped by the FARC.

YAY!

Wake for founding fathers

Today, my family held a wake for two founding fathers and the loss of our Independence from the tyranny of wealth.

Today has been celebrated by our country for 232 years as a day of liberation and freedom.  Unfortunately that liberation, at the time and for long after, was predominantly for the wealthy white men who created this “new” nation after pillaging the land from the nations already in existence on this continent.  However, their actions and declarations and constitution were in theory what we celebrate - freedom from tyranny of government by an unelected ruling elite (monarchy).

Fifty years to the day after July 4, 1776, both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died.  Both of whom are now likely rolling over in their graves at the devastation “we the people” have created of our government as we are subjects to the unelected corporate ruling elite (fascist oligarchy).

While these men were products of their times, they did give us the basis of our government, which in theory is what Americans are proud of.  The implementation has failed to live up to our hopes and dreams, but times are changing, and with continued perserverance and sacrifice, i hope we will accomplish the manifestation of the ideals behind the constitution for every person.

Expansion on Death Penalty Stance

Abolition - forget the moratorium…this resolution just passed by my state party speaks my mind:

Resolution to Abolish the Death Penalty in Texas
WHEREAS Texas leads the country in executions, having put to death 405 people since the
death penalty was reinstated, over one third of all US executions, and

WHEREAS there are growing revelations concerning official misconduct and racial bias by
district attorneys, police officers, and court appointed attorneys as well as serious errors
by crime lab technicians, all of which have undermined public confidence in the criminal justice
system, and Read the rest of this entry »

Donation Page fixed

Thank you to those who pointed out that my donation widget was inactive.  The issue has been resolved (new chipin) so you can now pass those donations along to help us in the last month before the nomination to ensure that all our delegates get to the convention!

Thanks in advance for your contribution whether it’s $1 or $2300 or anywhere in between!

FYI, any left over campaign funds will go to help with ballot access in states in need.

Happy Pride Week!

Many moons ago I attended my first Pride Parade in Toronto wearing leather and pvc in the scorching heat. Thankfully the biker dykes sprayed me with aqua as they passed by. i think i even had a shaved head then.

Now, i spend pride festivals sitting in a room of greens at the GPTX convention due to state law dictating our conventions the same day as texas pride activities! bummer for me and all those who think they’ll see me in that drag again - not likely (don’t even own it anymore) *laugh*

anyhow….my partner designed this awesome logo for Green Pride that you can DIY (see below) or get on stuph at www.cafepress.com/katswift

for DIY printing:

Compare the existing (2004) repub/dem platform with the green platform on LGBTIQ rights and AIDS and then figure out if you are supporting the party that supports you. (if you’re green, then you are!)
